AllenResources: Core Economics

You can find this video on YouTube, just do a search for AllenResources.  You can also click the youtube playlist link on the sidebar.  I highly recommend you watch this video if you have little experience with economics or you want to start off with a foundation approach.  I found everything in this video relatively easy, and the video dosen’t really cover any of the concepts of the CFA exam, rather economics fundamentals needed to study the exam.  Watch this before you study economics, it may help.

Quant: What I Have Completed So Far

What I Have Completed:

  • Readings 5 – 12 Schweser
  • Stall Cue Cards for SS2 & SS3
  • AllenResources Quant Video #1 (3 hours)
  • Study Notes from James Morales and 10Y5M
  • QuickSheet Review
  • Secret Sauce Read

What I Have NOT Completed:

  • End of Reading Problems for CFAI Reading 6 – 12
  • End of Reading Problems for Schweser 6 – 12
  • Qbank Quant (Focus)
  • AllenResources Quant Video #2 (4 hours)
  • YouTube Playlist (designated quant videos)
  • Wikipedia Overview (General CFA)

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have decided to leave the items in the second list until the review process for strategic reasons.  I have mulled over this decision a great deal and I truly believe it will help me in the long run if I save some of these resources for the 1st week of review in May.

AnalystForums

If you haven’t signed up for AF, I question your willingness to pass CFA.  Just joking, I am the last person to pass judgement on someone’s personal study habbits.  But seriously, check out AnalystForums.  Just today users brought the following resources to the attention of the CFA-L1 masses:

  • A YouTube playlist of CFA related videos
  • A Investopedia guide to the CFA-CBOK (cumbersome, extremely useful)
  • A set of guidelines and exam day techniques from people who have taken CFA-L1
  • Multiple postings on what 3rd party study supplier to use
  • A list of the most fundamental errors that people generally make (curriculum wide)

That is a list of what I personally took from AF today alone, not mentioning the significant resources, opinions, experiences and support I have recieved from AF members. I can’t speak highly enough of this resource and highly recommend it for those of you who don’t use it.

YouTube Playlist

I put together an initial YouTube playlist that I will likely be updating as time goes on.  I’ll likely refer to it during my review process starting fairly shortly.  I am surprised how much content is on YouTube in specific reference to the CFA.  Very useful resources indeed.  As I progress through material, I expect to add videos not directly labeled in reference to CFA, but rather in reference to more complex topics that I need clarification on.  For the time being, the reduced playlist can be found at:

Coming Soon…..

I thought I would throw together my typical coming soon post.  I have been plugging away at the three blogs trying to keep some sense of normalcy. Below is a list of posts I am going to try and hammer out in the next couple days:

  • YouTube and the CFA
  • Calgary CFA Mock Exam
  • Calgary CFA Study Groups
  • About Me Page
  • About the CFA Page
  • CFA – Level 1 Page

Study Notes Series

  • Why Pay Extra for 3rd Party Supplies?
  • Part 1: Stalla
  • Part 2: Schweser
  • Part 3: Professional Exam Review
  • Part 4: 7City Learning
  • Part 5: Analyst Notes
  • My Choice of Study Solutions
  • Use of Torrents

Also, I hope to get a better layout on this site.  I threw this one on here just as a temporary fix, but I am really not feeling it.  I am going to try to get something better on here.

I hope to hammer this out in the next few days.  Furthermore keep an eye out for a bunch of links.  I have about 50 or so good quality websites I want to throw in the blog-roll in some fashion.  I’ll try to get that done soon to.  My goal is to have all this initial research based posts done before I start studying.
